This is a battle, everyday. We must pray that God will open our eyes to the reality of what is at stake for eternity. There is so much more than what we encounter in the day-to-day life – there is an overarching anthem of love, and a constant battle for the kingdom all around us.
Let us, then, not walk naïve or unaware, but fully engaged, living life through the perspective of an incredible eternity worth our priorities, thinking, passions, and life. For our King is too great not to serve, and too great to be forgotten in the thick of our daily schedules and experiences. Rather, we should turn the thick of our daily schedules, busyness, and experiences into prime opportunities to engage war on the spiritual deadness of the world–with all the love, joy, and peace we can contrive from the base, from the power source, and the truth of the Gospel.
Jesus fully engaged us, with a mindset continually focused, satisfied, and desiring about the age to come—the redemption of our souls and the restoration of the world. Indeed, being found in Him, and being a recipient of such an engaged and life-changing love, we—being found in Him—are called to something so much bigger and better and imaginably more satisfying than we could ever fathom. For this is the calling: to declare the Gospel to all the earth, for the joys of all peoples, for the purpose of their seeing and savoring the glory of God–the Restorer of whom and the things we were created to enjoy forever and live.
This is a battle, a pursuit, and an immensely high calling. For much is at stake.
“You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.” (2 Timothy 2:1,3)
